LOCAL SCHOOL BOARDS DEVELOP NEW TRANSPORTATION PROCEDURES FOR FOG DAYS |

The St. Clair Catholic District School Board and the Lambton Kent District School Board have developed new administrative procedures, which will assist parents on mornings when dangerous fog conditions exist. “We needed a procedure that was less confusing,” says Margaret Nelson, Director of Education for the St. Clair Catholic District School Board. “Our parents need to know immediately what the plan is for getting their children to and from school safely, when fog makes travel dangerous. We think this new administrative procedure accomplishes that.” In the past, fog has resulted in bus delays, which could last for up to two hours. And in some cases, at the end of those delays busses were ultimately cancelled. Under the new administrative procedures developed by both boards, buses will no longer be delayed because of fog. |
If dangerous fog conditions exist, morning buses will be cancelled immediately. However, even when morning buses are cancelled, students will be bussed home after school. The decision whether to cancel the morning buses will be made by the bus operators. Parents should listen to their local radio station, or check the transportation web site at www.schoolbusinfo.com “The new rules are clearer and simpler,” says Paul De Sadeleer, Director of Education for the Lambton Kent District School Board. “Parents will know immediately that if fog makes it too dangerous for our buses to operate, the run will be cancelled. But they will also know that if they give their children a ride to school once the fog clears, our buses will bring them home.” The new administrative procedures have been reviewed by Trustees of both the Lambton Kent District School Board and the St. Clair Catholic District School Board. They go into effect immediately. |
